Haven Knox-Johnston Kip Regatta Kicks Off Major Racing Calendar in Style

The first major event of the sailing racing calendar got underway in fantastic fashion over the weekend of 9th and 10th May at Kip Marina, as sailors gathered for the Haven Knox-Johnston Kip Regatta.

With six different classes competing and an overall winner crowned at the end of the weekend, the regatta proved to be a huge success both on and off the water, with strong turnouts, competitive racing, and excellent shoreside hospitality throughout.

Festivities began on Friday evening with a BBQ hosted by the Marina and supplied by a local butcher. Competitors and crews enjoyed burgers and refreshments in glorious sunshine overlooking the Marina basin, creating the perfect start to the weekend.

Racing got underway on Saturday, with the team from Royal Western Yacht Club delivering three excellent races in ideal conditions on the waters off the Marina. The competitive spirit continued ashore on Saturday night at The Chartroom, where sailors and supporters enjoyed drinks, music, and a lively atmosphere well into the evening.

Competitors were back up early on Sunday morning, helped along by the café on site to provide much-needed coffee and breakfast ahead of another strong day of sailing.

The weekend concluded with a well-attended prizegiving ceremony at The Chartroom on Sunday afternoon. Competitors received an impressive selection of prizes kindly donated by sponsors including Angelwax cleaning supplies, Gill UK, Dubarry of Ireland, Argyll Riggers based at Kip Marina, Blackwoods Gin, along with support from Tunnock’s and Kingfisher Yacht Ropes.

We would like to Thank all Boat Owners, Crews, Volunteers, Committee Members, Marina staff, and Sponsors for helping make the Regatta such a memorable occasion and welcoming everyone back again next year for another successful event.
