Ardgowan Estate

Renowned as a sporting estate which caters for a great variety of pursuits. Outdoor activities include grouse, partridge, pheasant and clay pigeon shooting, walking cycling, horse riding, river and loch fishing. Newark Castle

Dumbarton Rock

Rises 240ft high twin peaked volcanic plug. Existence of settlement here is first recorded in a letter St Patrick wrote to King Ceretic, the British King of Strathclyde at Alcluith in about AD450. Worth making a detour to see. [ find out more ]

Cornalees Visitor Centre

Located on the west side of Loch Thom in the hills south of Greenock, this traditional slate roofed visitor centre provides access to great walks and a nature trail in the Glen. The centre offers excellent access to the Greenock Cut (5.5 mile aqueduct, and designated ancient monument) for a great reasonably level circular walking route with fantastic panoramic views of the Clyde and islands.
