Kip 40th Anniversary
Kip Marina launches step aboard leisure sailing in Scotland.
In the Early Sixties Derek and June Holt along with their daughters Linda, Christine and Sandra, enjoyed sailing on the Clyde from a mooring at Cardwell Bay in Gourock. The boat, a gentleman's Launch, named "Escape" was just that from their business at The Cloch. Derek or "Mr Holt" as he was universally known, became aware of a new innovation in boat mooring being developed abroad which provided the walk on/ walk off facility which we enjoy today. Being all too familliar with the perils of conveying a family and provisions to a boat on a mooring he immediately saw the potential. Identifying the saltings at Inverkip - an inland area which provided exceptional shelter amidst a magnificent rural setting - Kip Marina was born.
Development has continued for the last 40 years ensuring Kip has always been at the forefront of Marine Industry in the U.K. The original berthing layout has remained, although continued expansion has seen the original 200 berths expand to 600+ fully serviced berths. The most recent addition to our berthing structure are the "Easy Berths", the first such development in the UK.
Things have continued to change on the land as well as the water with new office buildings housing the largest Chandlery on the lower Clyde, Cafe, Power boat training, Charter company's. Other additions include, Undercover service workshops and new Boat Sales buildings.
"The Chartroom" Restaurant and Bar, Kip's first on-site watering hole has also continued to expand over the last 25 years; with the addition of the conservatory dining area and a Giant Kids Play Fort. The recently re-furbished Function Suite now caters for many varying events from Waterside weddings to formal Balls.
